In 1928, based on an initiative of the Federation of Basque-Navarre Savings Banks, the Spanish Confederation of Savings Banks (CECA) was constituted, with the object of uniting the forces of the members and acting as a representative body in different forums.
At present CECA is made up of 46 Spanish savings banks. It also performs its own banking operations and is therefore a credit institution without any specific limitations.
The support that CECA provides its members is two-fold. It works both as an association an as a supplier of specialised services.
In its quality of association, CECA:
Represents the savings banks towards the public authorities and in the international arena; Provides a facility for studying matters concerning savings banks;
Cooperates with the financial authorities and; Acts as a Coordination Centre providing information and advice and dealing with communications as well as marketing. As a service supplier, CECA offers the savings banks a wide range of associated, operating, financial and technological services.
